TEHRAN – The 11th conference of Mexican labor parties in a statement on Saturday proposed forming Iran-Latin America alliance committee to defend Iran’s right to utilize peaceful nuclear technology.
The representatives of 134 leftist parties from 35 countries attended the meeting titled “Parties and the Modern Society” and expressed opposition to the three UN Security Council resolutions against Iran the latest of which was issued on March 3 in protest at Tehran’s nuclear activities.“All attendees at the meeting announce their alliance with the Iranian nation to oppose imperialists’ sanctions and they call for the swift abrogation of UN Security Council resolutions against Iran,” read the statement.
The conference also urged the veto-wilding members of the Security Council, Russia and China, to prevent threats and sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Mohammad-Hossein Qadiri Abyaneh, criticized the Western powers’ efforts to step up pressure on the Islamic Republic, even though the UN nuclear watchdog and U.S. intelligence agencies have confirmed the non-diversion of Iran’s nuclear program toward weapons production.
International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Mohamed ElBaradei in a report to the Board of Governors on Feb. 22 reaffirmed Iran’s nuclear transparency.
“The agency has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran,” the report said.
In addition, the U.S. National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on December 3 reported that Iran has no nuclear weapons program and probably can not produce enough uranium for a bomb until 2010 at the earliest even if it wished to develop nuclear arsenals
